In reality, it was actually plans for Diddy's surprise birthday party DK initially not being included due to having a rep for spoiling surprises and secrets.
DK tries to dissuade the conspiracy theory, but this just makes Diddy believe his friend had also been turned and allies with the Kremlings for help. Rool instructs Diddy to use the Crystal Coconut to push back the "enemy", secretly deceiving the small primate into hand-delivering him the orb.
Donkey Kong intercepts Diddy and takes the coconut back before he can bring it to the Kremling king before luring him to the surprise in the temple of Inka Dinka Doo, where his friend collapses in shock.
Diddy soon becomes ill, loses his voice, and winds up passing his illness to Krusha, who passes it to K. Rool, whose underlings misinterpret his plans to subjugate the Kongs being genocidal when he loses his voice.
DK is sent to obtain a Tin Banana-Tu, the sole cure being its nectar, before Diddy's illness completes its final, fatal stage but finds himself having to choose between saving Diddy or K. Rool when the latter is needed to call off his troops. Rool before rushing back to Diddy at Cranky's cabin. DK uses a pair of coconuts that Diddy used to avoid his vaccination in the first place, their nectar-infused milk curing Diddy. He also appeared in the Club Nintendo comic " Donkey Kong Country ", serving a similar role to the one in the game of the same name.
Diddy's task is to watch over the Banana Hoard, however King K. Rool finds him and puts him into a Barrel. When discovered by Donkey Kong, both start searching for the villain.
