Where to get watch strap adjusted

If the watch is very loose, you will have to remove lots of links. If your watch is too small, you will have to buy extra links from the watch manufacturer to make the band larger. Make sure you have an equal number of links on either side of the clasp that need to be removed.

This will make sure the watch itself stays centered on the wrist band. Write down the number of links that need to be removed from either side of the clasp. You will need one or two push pins. You will use these to push the pins that hold the links together out of their holes. Get a pair of needle nosed pliers to help you remove the pins.

You will need a small jewelry hammer. Make sure you are working on a flat surface with good lighting. You will need to collect any pins you remove from the band.

Count up the number of links you will need to remove. Find the pin holding the last link in place. This is where you will remove the links.

Push the sharp end of the pushpin against the head of the link pin. A small amount of the push pin should now be protruding from the other side of the link. Use the hammer to drive the push pin in further to get more of the link pin out. Once you have enough of the link pin out of the hole on the other side of the wrist band to grasp it with the pliers, you can use the pliers to get it out. You'll need a punch that is capable of making a two-millimeter hole. There's no need to deal with a watch that's too loose.

With a little patience and a steady hand, you can adjust most watch bands to better fit your wrist. Adjusting a Metal Watch Band Most metal watchbands are made up of links that are attached to one another with small metal pins.

What to Do First, determine how many links you need to remove. You can do this by measuring your wrist with the measuring tape comfortably loose, just as you'd wear your watch. Compare this measurement to the watch band to find out how my extra links you have. You'll also need to take a close look at the links.

Not all links can be removed. In many watches, the removable links are near the clasp and are marked with small arrows. Locate the pins that are holding the removable links together; they will be near the arrow. Rest the watch band on its side on the two blocks of wood. Position the pin so that it is between the blocks, in a way that will allow you to tap it out while supporting the rest of the band.

The arrow on the link should be pointing downward. Hold one of the sewing pins directly over the watch pin hole on the link. Position the point of the pin so it will go down into the hole, pushing the watch pin out.

Gently tap the small hammer on the top of the sewing pin, pushing the watch pin down between the blocks of wood. The sewing pin will now be in its place. Use the small pliers to remove the sewing pin, and set the watch pin aside.

The links will pull apart. Remove the number of links you desire, and then carefully realign the links to close the watch band. Position the watch pin so that it is in the hole for the link, and then use the small hammer to tap it back into place. If you have trouble placing the pin, a pair of tweezers can help. Try on your watch to make sure it fits as needed. Prepare the new strap by separating the two strap parts from each other. Pull the longer strap piece up through the metal loop.

Start at the top of the watch case and insert the long part of the strap from the front of the watch to the back through the opening between the watch case and the spring bar. Pull the strap and insert it from back to front through the opening at the bottom of the case.

Slide the case to the middle of the strap. Insert the long end of the strap through the metallic loop at the end of the shorter part of the strap.

When moving the pin to a new hole make sure to lift it so you don't scratch the surface of the watch strap.
